Pompey's Pillar
On a rocky hilltop in the middle of the great city of Alexandria , lies the only known free-standing column to ever exist in Egypt and the largest monolith column ever erected. The Pillar is 25 meters high, made from one single piece of red granite quarried in Aswan, and is said to be built over the ruins of the Serapeum, a temple complex dedicated to the Greco-Egyptian god Serapis, adding a great historical depth to the site.
